About Me

Hi, My name is Gareth Kyle and this is my food based blog/website. I’m a lover of good food and I live in the beautiful North East of England.

I have been cooking for as long as I can remember – my two earliest memories are the 1990 Football World Cup and being caught by my mam in the kitchen at 8 years old with a pan on the stove cooking….. lemonade soup! I had a frying pan on the go and in it was chopped cucumber, tomato and lemonade – yak! I was inspired by watching keith Floyd with my Dad to make that concoction – I am glad to say my skills are a bit sharper now!

I’m a self taught cook and I have taken part in a number of cooking competitions. I was a winner of the 2012 EAT! NewcastleGateshead Trial Shift Competition and the 2011 Masterchef Live competition at the BBC Good Food show. I then went on to win a Masterchef ‘Champion of Champions’ event at the London Studios. In 2010 I was a final regional contender on ITV’s Britain’s Best Dish.

I have also worked ‘stages’ at Rockliffe Hall with Kenny Atkinson and at Blackfriars Restuarant in Newcastle with Troy Terrington who now works at Jesmond Dene House.

I now organise pop-up restaurant events and offer private dining services to individual clients as well as working on blog and food article writing, cookery classes, event & food festival managemnet and a street food concept to be launched in 2014.

This website has details of all my projects together – recipes, videos, events, news and occasional reviews of noteworthy places i’ve ate.

Recently featured on Sky Tyne & Wear, BBC Radio Newcastle, Appetite Magazine, The Journal, The Advertiser and Men’s Health Magazine, I began my documenting my cooking  journey here in June 2011
